Subject:Beautiful Arita Vase

I bought this vase at a recent estate auction. I just thought it was beautiful. Approx 11" in height. Beautiful flowers and pagodas all over it.

Signed in Japanese, but I do not know what the marks says. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Much much nicer than your other vase. This one is a real winner. Temples covered with a profusion of cherry blossoms - beautiful! Meiji period, c1900 or thereabouts. For a lot of these high quality pieces the porcelain blanks were made in Arita or in Seto, but decorated elsewhere, sometimes Kyoto, sometimes Tokyo. For such pieces there is often a small "blind stamp" on the porcelain denoting the kiln.

Thanks! I thought it was very special, too. The pictures don't do it justice, really. I am surprised you thought it was Meiji period. I was thinking mid 20th century. No ideas on the mark?

Possibly a Kutani mark. I guessed Meiji based on the quality. I tried to upload a pic of a later (circa mid 20th c), related vase, but it didn't work. Anyway, it was a good buy, enjoy!

A bottle vase with similar design inspiration. This one described as Kutani porcelain. I believe it is probably modern, late 20th c, but beautiful nonetheless.
