Subject:woodblock print or painting?
Posted By: Lopez Wang Sun, Jun 12, 2016 IP: 82.67.243.113

This is what appears to be a woodblock print by Xu Beihong ,and not hand drawn or painted with an accompanying text .

The only thing i know on identifing seals,it appears to be printed by the famous auction house Rong Bao Zai in Beijing.
I have a second piece that is slightly damaged and made by Guan Shan Yue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

can't tell from these photos if done with woodblocks or not; the albums of Qi Baishi etc woodblocks they produced date from the 1950s, this seems a more recent reproduction but the method used is unclear. someone else may know more. I gather from the call letters that this was part of an art library's collection.

Hello Rat .
I am afraid that my message of 15 06 was not able to be sent .
I send back it again:

thank you so much for your kind reply . and for your care about this painting.

In fact, this is not a leaf from an album, but a hanging scroll, described in a more accurate way as below:

Horses drinking by Xu Beihong
Hanging scroll 72.44 by 27.17 in. ,the painting 30.78. by 22.05 in. ink and color on paper signed Beihong , dated thirty, second year ( of the republic) late autumn 1943,with two seals of the artist Xu and Dong Hai Wang Sun.
(according to the inscription , painting made in Panxi )
Unfortunately, picture in poor condition ,damaged by the humidity, need of a restauration .

I post new pics .

Once again, thank you for your help

thanks, the description you posted is quite accurate. as the Rongbaozhai seal indicates, this is not an original painting but a reproduction, and according to the following link is indeed done with woodblocks.

here's another, more distressed, copy:
