Subject:Question about a possible Chinese blanc-de-chine figure of Guanyin on a lion
Posted By: Luciano Wed, Aug 24, 2016 IP: 193.204.90.190

Hello,
I hope you may help me to know something more about a possibly chinese blanc-de-chine porcelain figurine of Guanyin (I am not sure) on a lion, perhaps made at the Dehua kilns in the Fujian.
It is cm 11,5 high and, as you can see, the woman (?) was holding a ruyi sceptre (missing).
Thanks in advance for your kind help and greetings from Rome,
Luciano

I believe you have a Japanese goddess riding the shishi and not necessarily Kannon (Guanyin). Perhaps Amaterasu? Here's a picture I posted to an earlier thread of what looks like the same image as yours but in polychrome. Similar hair-do it seems. Maybe some of our Japanese savants can steer us in the right direction.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hello Bill,
thank you so much for your kind reply and the interesting figure you have proposed.
Actually, there are striking similarities but let's hope someone could suggest a definitive answer.
Thanks again and best regards,
Luciano
