Subject:Can you identify the artist?

Can anyone identify the artist's signature on this Daikoku carving?
I thank you in advance for your input.

The characters are 政廣刀,or "carved by Shoko/Seiko". A Japan expert may be better able to pinpoint the name pronunciation.

Eventually, the artist could be Sawada Seikô (澤田政廣, 1894-1988), painter and sculptor who made similar polychromed wooden statues of Japanese deities.

Guy.

FYI,

Your statue depicts the deity Daikoku, one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods.

As with your carving, Daikoku is usually portrayed standing on two bales of rice holding his magic mallet and treasure sack.

Cheers
