Subject:Woodblock print questions
Posted By: Christopher E Sun, Oct 09, 2016 IP: 2602:0306:c4bb:a420:

I received some woodblock prints and have a couple questions. I know they are part of "The 53 Stations of the Tokaido" but I can't nail down a date for for this printing. I found the edge marks but can't interpret them. Second, when I removed them from the frame I noticed the years under the matting left them darkened. Can these be cleaned? Any help would be great. Thanks?

The cartouche in the left hand margin mentions that this official re-edition was supervised by Takahashi Seiichirô, (1884-1982), a famous Japanese economist but also a ukiyo-e scholar and specialist of Hiroshige.
The cartouche reads partially 監修 高橋誠一郎 (kanshû Takahashi Seiichirô).
I could have a further reading if you could post sharper images of the text.

Guy.
