Subject:Famille rose Chinese Export Figurine? Help Identifying Maker/Shop
Posted By: Elke Sat, Dec 17, 2016 IP: 92.196.95.43

Hello everybody!
Specialist in chinese export porcelain and identifying of porcelain hallmark needed: I own this porcelain figure (was unfortunately broken and damaged while it was sended to me), which in my opinion could be a real famille rose and of the time (late 18. century..or 19.th century)?? It shows a bird catching a worm sitting on lotus leafs and flowers painted in colours of the famille rose palette.

Sorry the pics are not best quality.

What do the experts say? Can anybody please help identify the hall- /shopmark. I could only identify the first icon, should translate "Made in the hall/pavillion of...".

If it should be really an old "famille rose" chinese export object I´m thinking about a professional restoration, either than sticking it together with Pattex by myself...

Advice and hints are warmely welcomed.

Greetings from Elke Germany

Hello Elke,

Nice looking piece you got there!

Regarding your question about the hall of make - it reads "hua Rong Tang Zhi" which translates simply to "Made in the Hua Rong Hall"

Hua Rong Kiln/hall was located in Southern China with a special niche for producing ceramic wares for the West. Their taste in design was heavily influenced by import demands from the west and so they shyed away from traditional Ming/Qing styles.

This explains your piece alot as it is very unique in design and evidently not traditional.

Is it so unfortunate that it broke while shipping however! we hope you're able to repair it!!

If you are ever curious to see if ceramic wares of similar sorts ever made it up onto auction please visit out site and do a little research!

Late Qing-Early Republic porcelain maker in Guangdong province (just north of Hong Kong) called Huarongtang, though I don't know that your vessel dates that early, it may be considerably more recent. Use the characters below to find a bunch of their items online.
華榮堂製

Here is another picture of the object, taken before it was damaged...

Thank you very much for your kind answers.
I myself think it should be late 19.th century made in that kiln. Maybe I will let it be fixed professionally. I have an offer by a Berlin professional restorer, expert in the field of porcelain restoring. This will cost ca. 200$/€, but nevertheless, this piece is unique...

Happy and peaceful christmas to everyone.

Elke, Gemany
