Subject:Help Identify Satsuma style Vase
Posted By: Nels Gullerud Wed, Jan 25, 2017 IP: 173.170.135.243

Last of my quandaries for now - Can't find anything close to the marks on this Satsuma style vase. Checked through all the Gotheborg.com files but found nothing close. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Nels

平安薩摩窯 風山画
‘Heian Satsuma-kama’ (Heian Satsuma kiln), ‘Fuzan ga’ (painted by Fuzan).

High quality export ware from the Kyoto area, ca. 1900.

Cfr. another piece, decorated by Fuzan.

Wow -By the color and form I had guessed it to be 1950s era. Thanks a lot!
The last three characters translate as "Satsuma-kama"? Is that often written on satsuma pieces of the era?
Just trying to learn.

Thanks again

As far as I know, the indication 'kama' is not very common.

We have to bear in mind that this is not Satsuma yaki (Satsuma ware) but Satsuma style export ware from Kyoto (Heian Satsuma).

See also the earlier thread in the link below.
