looks like Pterocarpus indicus
This is a large tree that grows in Malaysia, and on the Burma coast. It forms a large burl we call amboyna, and has been prised in China and throughout the world for hundreds of years. This burl is the most expensive part of the raw material, but in the area of the large trunk leading to the burl on the quarter cut, produces interesting chatoyancy, as evident on your piece. Commonly referred to as Narra, in China it forms one of the 34 species referred to as hongmu.
Historically very interesting species, but your I assume couch? is a contemporary piece of furniture, so I will spare you the lecture.
