Subject:Chinese Sancai glazed seated woman pottery ?
Posted By: Steven Tue, Mar 14, 2017 IP: 67.83.98.214 Hi, I recently purchased a large collection of figures and sculptures from a woman who's father collected Asian antiques. I'm hoping someone with a bit more knowledge on the subject may be able to help me identify whether these pieces are original pieces, antique reproductions or modern reproductions. I have quite a few interesting items so I'm hoping to get some feedback on the pieces. This women appears to be made of some sort of pottery and is approximately 6" x 9" x 25". Thanks for any help you can provide. Steve |

Posted By: rat Thu, Mar 16, 2017 This one is a modern reproduction, perhaps imitating an excavated piece as someone has posted a similar figurine (lacking the mirror yours is holding) to pinterest. Here's another example that the Art Institute of Chicago says is genuine, it's along similar lines as yours but still rather different. http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/exhibitions/Chinese/artwork/37729 |
