A Japanese wood carving. Quite old, fragile and delicate.
This stature/carving is made up of a multiple of wooden panels, all glued and fitted together. It is very light in weight and hollow, not a single piece of carved wood. Dimensions are 18” Wide x 12” High x 9” Deep.
Can anyone identify this man? What story could he tell? What was his life’s work? Was he a God, Ruler, Scholar? My limited research shows this “may” have been made possibly 700 years ago, based upon a “similar” carving I noticed on-line. Thank you, in advance, for any and all information and guidance. Sincerely, Steve D. Florida USA
