21. Tashilima Buddha Tibet 15th-16th c. gilded bronze 5 1/8"

Detail:right Although the stylistic features of this bronze are indicitvive of an earlier date of manufacture - the 12th century - this particular Buddha is most likely a later, 15-16th century, revival school image. Typical to the period, many of these images are inscribed with the phrase Tashi Lima. Although never translated with authority, it is believed to mean: "lucky (auspiscious) image in bronze."
