Detail: close-up view #1

The Japanese kaidan-dansu (step chest), also known as a tansu chest, is a rare combination of architecture and utility, as it really did function as a staircase and a storage unit. Kaidan-dansu are not usually made of the most expensive wood, but command high prices because of their uniqueness and relative rarity. This cabinet ensemble includes six drawers and three sections with doors.
