Brass Sign

Museum Brass Plaque

The two bronze plaques flanking the "golden door" were made in the traditional "lost wax" casting process for which Patan is famous. The "endless knot" logo (called granthi) is one of the eight astamangala, or auspicious symbols of Buddhism, and represents the endless cycle of rebirths. It is an old symbol, already found on seals of the Indus Valley civilization.
