Subject:Chinese famille rose porcelain bowl

Chinese export porcelain bowl with apocryphal Qianlong six character iron red mark. Republic or mid 20th century? Opinions?

I used to run into a lot of bowls like this about 20 years ago. They had similar pink petal lappets in the inner border and apparent transfer-applied decoration, with thick hand-applied enamels in some floral areas, which imparts a tactile quality that convinces some handlers the whole thing is hand-painted.

Possibly done in Hong Kong or Macao in the third quarter of the 20th century. The style of mark may tell more if seen.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Bill - Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I'm not sure whether transfers or stencils were used for the border decoration but I do feel that the quality of the painting is not up to par for the Republic era. I found a bowl with the identical decoration on Ebay erroneously listed as an 18th century Chinese export piece.
