Posted By: Bill H Tue, Mar 31, 2020 Likely Republic-era. Tony Allen notes in his 2016 book 'Allen's Antique Porcelain - The Detection of Fakes' that the USA's 1914 Truth in Labeling Law required the words 'Made In' to be added before the country name appearing on exports. But implementation of the law appears to have been delayed until 1919 because of the outbreak of World War I. Accordingly, your teapot probably was made around that time or a bit later. It still seems to show some evidence of hand painting, although by this time many of the underlying black outlines for such patterns were being laid down by the transfer method. |
