I'd be grateful to learn the origin and age of this Asian cup and saucer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have a very nice cup and saucer made in China in the early 18th century. It is painted in the "Chinese Imari" style with what appears to be excellent condition. A discussion of whether a handled cup is for either coffee or tea has never been resolved completely.

The "Chinese Imari" was not made in the pattern of Japanese porcelain. What was borrowed was the colors of the enamel work,i.e. iron red and dark and light blues. The Chinese often added gold highlights and outlines.
