Subject:Is it a fake Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi seal?
Posted By: Tabitha Reg Sun, Jul 03, 2022 IP: 67.251.65.118

I'm glad to have found these forums!! I've been researching this piece and am thinking that this is a fake but wanted some other opinions.

This piece has a diameter of 16 cm and is about 2.5 cm in height. The glaze is very thick. In good light it has an opalescent pinkish shine. The black dots are tiny holes in the glaze. They look like pin holes in the glaze. The flowers and scroll decorations are etched and raised. You can feel the etching and the filled glaze is raised within the etching.

After finally finding the mark online and reading a lot about it. This is why I think that this piece is fake:
~there is double stamping at the top of the seal
~It is not a "5" not even close to a "5"
~there isn't any variation in the ink saturation on the seal to show where they picked up their brush

All of this makes me wonder if it is a fake and maybe a forger's practice piece? I've also wondered if it could be minyao, or ‘the ware of the people'? This piece was definitely not intended for the emperor. It is very basic. Could it be an apprentice piece? I did read that a lot of those were destroyed because they were of course not good enough for the emperor.

You can find some photos in the linked Google Drive folder. All opinions are welcome and I thank you for your time!

The fact that the mark is stamped and not written is a clear indication that it is a much later piece.
In my opinion it is a 20th century example.
