This is part of a wooden japanese plate engraved with an itinerary and the names of towns, in china, as a souvenir for the war (1894-95)I believe.

You are quite right! These are two cities in the Shandong province, and my wooden carved box and plate commemorate the landing of Japanese troops in 1914 which took over with British troops the German Tsingtao stonghold. A very rare happening of the first world war in Asia!

This looks like part of a map of Shandong province in China. The city of Jinan 濟南 is connected by rail towards the East to the city of 青島 on the coast. 三月島 might have been on the coast south of Qingdao, b ut i couldn't find it there. There is a Three Moon Island in NorthKorea, but I don't think this is it, but who knows.
