Subject:Wooden table and 4 stools
Posted By: Tony W. Sat, Feb 17, 2024 IP: 23.243.126.110

It is a set of circular wooden low table with 4 stools. The last owner inherited it from a couple whose husband was a Holland WW2 veteran and had it shipped to his wife in the US during the 1940's (while stationed in Japan?). Under the new ownership, it was later stored outside the home and unfortunately bears signs of weathering. According to the new owner, some lemon oil was applied to a section of the table (as shown in the first photo) trying to recondition the wood where the wood grains showed up nicely again, before it was passed on to me.
It has no sign of nail nor glue and was masterfully carved. The wood is VERY dense and heavy for its size, and the wood grain is beautiful. The foot legs have dragon claw holding ball motif.
I would love to know and appreciate very much your input on what kind of wood it is, period, and whether it is Chinese or Japanese made, stylistically.

Thanks!

Tony

A section where it was not affected by the elements.
Would bring me joy to bring the set back to life myself. I would really appreciate any guidance. I've read some where on the forum that oil should not be used, if it is huanghuali?
