Subject:Possibly European bowl with fake Chinese mark

I have a feeling I've seen this mark before. Is this possibly European porcelain using a fake Chinese mark?

The mark identifies the plate as made by the Japanese Seiji Kaisha (Pure Water) Company that operated from 1879-1897, and according to some accounts possibly later. Google gotheborg.com and select ‘Japanese Marks’ and then ‘Fukagawa’ for an in-depth account of the company.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Kat,

you were right. This mark was discussed on the forum recently. Your item has transfer printed decoration and bears the Japanese "Sei Ji Kai Sha"-mark. "Pure Water Company" 1879-c. 1897. Yours is very late: 1905 onwards possibly. see gotheborg.com for reverence

with kind regards

Madria
