Subject:Moss in snow figure
Posted By: Katherine Seal Sat, Apr 13, 2024 IP: 43.231.29.185

Hi everyone

I bought this 4 inch figure some time back and am wondering if it's anything special? It's 184g.
It's natural A jadeite (I had it tested). I can't find anything quite like it anywhere online, apart from the famous jadeite cabbage, although I know that has cultural value.
It's very translucent white with dark/bright green veins and patches.
Just wondered what anyone thought. It was singled out by the gem lab as very high quality jade.
He's from pre 1940's China, maybe considerably older. Someone told me moss in snow jadeite is highly valued(?)
Thanks so much
Kate

Hi Katherine,
Yes indeed from your pictures the carving looks like jadeite jade.
Moss in snow jadeite was extremely popular during the later Guangxu period 1875-1908.
Dating jade is difficult by way of a few pictures. They really need to be handled in person.
Judging by the carving in
Vsmy opinion it's post 1949.
The carving itself is highly desirable and appears to be of good quality.
Katherine who was the lab please?
Regards,

Hi, thanks so much for replying.
The lab that certified it is Anchorcert in the United Kingdom.

Sorry, I should have said that it was acquired in the 1940s by a traveller in China, from a local. He was selling valuables in order to get to Taiwan.
