Subject:Double gourd vase
Posted By: Sally Fri, Mar 13, 2020 IP: 90.240.227.161 Hi, this vase is about 10" tall. I'd welcome any opinions as to date and place of manufacture. Thanks |

Posted By: Bill H Sat, Mar 14, 2020 China, Jiangxi, Jingdezhen. Circa Mid-first to second quarter, 20th century (late Qing-Republic). Difficult to tell without hands-on examination, but the sloppy glaze on the base and the general look of the mouth and waist diapering suggest transfer decoration may have been used. |

Posted By: Sally Fri, Mar 20, 2020 Thanks Bill , I wasn't sure whether it was Chinese. It's not particularly well made , the potting lacks definition and balance, and the decoration isn't the most elegant. Some of the flowers are an odd shape, they might be meant to be chrysanthemums , I can't be sure. I'm pretty certain it's hand painted, including the overglaze black on the mouth and neck. |
