Subject:Japanese shell-shaped B&W bowl brush washer?
Posted By: Bill H Wed, Apr 01, 2020 IP: 2601:342:200:6e70:dc This Japanese shaped porcelain bowl came from an estate sale held about a dozen years ago for an American who had served in an official capacity in Japan during the post-WWII occupation. It measures about 4.75 inches at its widest. I've tried to stare a translation out of the cursive script base-mark, but so far all it does is stare back in silence. That's why I suspect it is clam-shaped, but am not sure of that either. I think it may be as early as 19th century but have never come across another one like it with any information attached. So Anything I can learn from serious collectors of Japanese ceramics in the forum's midst would be valued and appreciated highly. |
