Posted By: john Sun, Apr 05, 2020 IP: 2601:1c0:5c03:810:48

I think this is original but it may be a print I was wondering of age and translation. Any help is appreciated.

松壑流泉 - Pines, ravines and waterfall
仲之畫 - Picture of Zhongzhi (Given name)
翁 - Weng (Surname)

Weng Zhongzhi 翁中之
I couldn't find artist neither in name dictionaries nor on the net.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you once again I. Nagy. After reading your post I came across this one https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2017/fine-classical-chinese-paintings-hk0737/lot.2808.html

Any chance this is the artist or am I way off?
"on the painting by Wang Zhongzhi, dated xinsi (1701)"

Dear John,
Weng 翁 and Wang 王 are different surnames.
Your painter is Weng Zhonzhi 翁仲之、the inscription on Shen Zongjing's picture was done by a certain Wang Zhongzhi
王忠? (I can't enlarge the picture enough to read the 3rd character)
Does your picture look like 300 years old ?

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi I.Nagy thanks again for the response. I can take a few better photos this afternoon but I have no way of knowing its age by looking at it. It does look old but I was guessing maybe a 100 years not 300... I can also remove it from frame to try and photograph back if that could help or maybe not even worth the trouble. Wishing you health and safety in uncertain times:)
