Subject:Japanese porcelain Chrysanthemum bowl w/ heavy gold encrusting
Posted By: Peggy Meyer Sun, Feb 19, 2023 IP: 75.176.186.162

I believe this bowl is Japanese. It measures 8 3/4" across & is 2" to the side edge. The only mark is the one shown on the bottom.

Thank you so much for any & all advice or opinions.

Peggy

I apologize profusely for messing up on the photos. I thought I had posted the 3 allowed & had included the bottom as well as a close-up of the mark. However, I was obviously mistaken.

I have posted 3 more photos & hopefully, I will have done it right this time.

Thank you for any & all advice or opinions.

Peggy

The gilt characters on red ground can be read as Japanese names "Masanari or Masashige (正成), but if any of them have made porcelain in the last couple of centuries, they evaded my Google searches. Your bowl resembles other with marks on a red field that were made circa the first quarter of the 20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.

@Bill H.

Thank you so much for your very kind assistance. It is good to know the country of origin & when it was likely made.
