Subject:Meiji era print
Posted By: Jonas Sat, Feb 17, 2024 IP: 79.113.211.29

Hello,

I hope that someone will be able to read the signature/seals of these prints. They seem to be from the Meiji era.

Thank you !

Jonas

Signed 'Yasukata' (康方), Yoshimoto Yasukata (吉本康方, fl. 1890s-1910s).

A pupil of Mizuno Toshikata and mainly active as an illustrator of books and magazines.

Hello,

Thank you very much ! The next prints come from the same album. But the seal/signature seem different. Is it the same artist ? Maybe is the same artist but he used a different artist name ?

Many thanks !

Jonas

The red seal on the 1st print and the last print previous post reads 'Kiyokata' (清方); Kaburaki Kiyokata (鏑木清方, 1878-1972).

The signature on the 2nd print reads 'Masataka-e' (picture by Masataka, 雅方繪) with seal 雅方. The artist is Ôishi Masataka (大石雅方, fl. 1890s).

The red seal on the 1st print of previous post reads probably 'Hidetaka' (秀方); the female artist Mizuno Hidetaka (水野秀方, 1875-1944). She became Toshikata's wife, adopting his surname.

All pupils of Mizuno Toshikata.

Guy.

Thank you so much. I guess these are a series produced by the Toshikata's students.

Is this signed Nobukata ?

And the next one Takakata ?

That last one I am clueless...

Many, many thanks !!!

No I don't think so. I have problems identifying this last signature and seal.

Does the album has a title or a colophon?

Someone else?

Guy.
