Subject:Uchiwa signature and seal?
Posted By: J. Boussinesq Wed, Mar 13, 2024 IP: 2600:1700:8c30:bcd0:

Hello All,

I have a question about a signature/seal combination that someone (I. Nagy?) might be able to help with. This uchiwa has a seal that looks much like Kamisaka Sekka's (although really messy) but the signature is clearly not Sekka and I can't read it. Can anyone read the signature? Thanks in advance.

Signature,
御風 Gyofu
I can't read the inscription on the rubber stamp, but it's markedly different from the imprint of Kamisaka Sekka's stamp.
I suppose it is the signature of Soma Gyofu,相馬御風 1883-1950, a famous writer, poet and critic active during the Meiji and Showa periods. If the fan has a verse inscription on it, it must be from him.

With regards,
I.Nagy
