Detail: Joan Mirviss will exhibit the work of ceramic artist Morino Hiroaki. Morino is celebrated for his ability to create consistently elegant and bold forms that can stand alone or serve as functional vessels. The ceramics are double-glazed in subdued combinations of persimmon-red, deep green, turquoise-blue, black, eggplant-purple, white and silver. The glazes perfectly complement the form and decoration of each vessel. Morino trained with National Treasures Tomimoto Kenkichi and Fujimoto Yoshimachi, but his work has been influenced as well by the time he spent in the West teaching at the University of Chicago. Based in Kyoto, he has been widely exhibited internationally.
