As it is the only major art fair in Southeast Asia , it provides a platform where gallery owners, collectors, artists and art aficionados gather to forge business alliance, acquire new contemporary artworks, share ideas and exchange information - all under one roof.
To celebrate the 8th edition of this event, Masanori Fukuoka, distinguished collector and connoisseur of contemporary Indian art, and owner and founder of the Glenbarra Art Museum, has curated a solo exhibition titled `Jogen Chowdhury: Enigmatic visions from the Glenbarra Art Museum featuring eighteen works by the internationally acclaimed Indian artist Jogen Chowdhury which will be shown to the public for the very first time. Over the past two decades, Masanori Fukuoka has assembled an impressive collection of over 5,000 works of contemporary Indian art, which has established him as one of the leading collectors in the field.
The flowing line contouring figures of men and women in provocative poses form a distinct characteristic feature in Chowdhury's style. His use of colour gives volume to the figures and the fluidity of lines depict the sensuality of the forms. In the course of over four decades of sustained contribution, he emerges as one of the foremost artists of post-independent India and has inspired successive generations of Indian artists of the 1980s and 1990s.
In addition, Kim Soo Keong, one of the leading collectors in Korea, and a director of Kwang Ju Biennale Foundation, has agreed to loan ARTSingapore a group of Nam June Paik works for a special exhibition, curated by Iris Moon titled `Nam June Paik: An Intimate Retrospective from the Kim Soo Keong Collection. It features several important pieces including Blue Buddha and TV Repair Man, two works that will be on public view for the first time. Kim Soo Keongs collection of Nam June Paik has widely been recognized as being amongst the most important in the world. It comprises over 1000 works by Picasso, Dufy, Warhol and many others, along with works by Korean artists such as Lee Bul, Jeong Hwa Choi and Nam June Paik.
Beginning in the early 1960's, a period which represented a crossover from the modern to post-modern art era, Paik took technology and media that had long been perceived as a sole Western preserve and incorporated them into his art to reflect the Asian sensibility. He combined various media, including TV, video, painting, drawing, performance, installation, etc., in order to expand arts boundaries by changing its language, content and delivery for viewers who live in an electronic information and visual culture world.
