Sharaku through the Eyes of Contemporary Japanese Artists

Detail: This exhibition will present a personal reinterpretation of the art of Sharaku by contemporary Japanese graphic designers and artists in Japan.
The eighteenth century Japanese artist known as Sharaku produced over 140 prints of various subjects, mostly portraits of actors, sumo wrestlers and warriors, in a period of approximately ten months between May 1794 and February 1795. Sharaku captured the features and characteristics of his subjects through keen observation and realistic expression.
This exhibition will feature a total of 81 items that will include recent reproduction of bust portraits, posters; painting; sculpture; photography; ceramics and prints of the art of Sharaku.
