Subject:Small Crackle Glazed Dish
Posted By: Shirley Giggacher Tue, Nov 14, 2017 IP: 151.26.168.69

Hello Everyone,
I found this small crackle glaze dish at a market next to a Shinto Shrine in West Tokyo when I was there in September and really liked it .It is a grey blue colour and has a faded picture of a Crane in the centre of it. It looks quite old and has an unglazed Terracotta base with some scratchings etched into it. I have no idea where it comes from or how old it is. Any information will be gratefully received. It is 6cm or 2 inch deep and 12 cms 4.5 inches in

Shirley, the crane is usually associated with Korean pottery, but I don’t know if it is used in Japan too. I would imagine Korean items can be found in Tokyo. Maybe search for Korea or Corea and see if you find a match. Hope this helps a little bit, good luck

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Endre.I really appreciate it. The man who sold me the items I bought at the shrine was actually Japanese but he said all the items I bought were Chinese . However I am interested in exploring other points of origin. Also I just realised I didnt post any photos with this post which would have made it difficult to identify so I will put some up now. Shirley
