Subject:White Jade Pagoda
Posted By: Daryl Tan Thu, Sep 22, 2005

I would like to ask opinion on this jade pagoda. The height is 14.5cm,base: 9.4cm x 5cm/4.8cm as it is smaller on one end.The seller listed it as Tang Dynasty jade.It was purchased in London more than 10 years ago. From the look of the shape of the pagoda,it is pre Song shape as during Song, the shape of pagoda has changes to hexagonal instead of square. The design in front/back and the side doors are reminiscent of Tang cloud pattern.

The pagoda is covered with white calcium buildup which has penetrated into the jade body.On the surface it can also be seen that there are lots of small holes due to corrosion in which it was buried probably immersed in water for a long period of time.

I appreciate if any members can provide me with additional information.

Daryl

Additional pictures of the pagoda. The surface of the pagoda is calcified as can be seen from below picture. The white is inside the jade body just below the jade surface. However,if water or oil is applied to the surface, the jade will become shiny/lustrous.
The body of the jade is translucent as can be seen when white light is shine into it.
I do hope someone can advise me on this pagoda.

Daryl
