Subject:Watercolor 2 : Any Advice would be greatly appreciated?
Posted By: Reilley Thu, Jan 29, 2015 IP: 67.216.150.237

This is my 2nd piece . I would greatly appreciate any information or thoughts on these pieces. I am not even sure which direction they hang . Do you happen to know the artist, the scene, the year, do they possibly have any value . Anything you may know about the pieces would be great or any other resources you know of that might be helpful for me to use please let me know. I apologize for my lack of knowledge, i hope to learn something from all of you.

Your first photo above is upside down, so that will tell you the correct orientation of the picture, which was painted in Taibei by someone surnamed Xue. There is a year in the inscription but I can't tell what its first character is. The subject seems to be two persimmons but I'm not sure what the giant black character is. There's also a dedication, to a couple I believe. The picture seems to lack a backing and therefore has suffered some damage; it has little commercial value unless you want to have it trimmed, stretched, and remounted. However the cost of doing so may easily exceed the commercial value of the picture.

update: looking a bit more closely shows the artist's name to be Xue Guangjun (though being in Taiwan s/he may romanize it as Hsueh Kwang-chun or as something else entirely).

Date seems to be dingmao year, or 1987.

Done by Gue Xihou, in 1955.
