What type of figure is this? Could anyone translate the signature, please!

It is signed 'Gyokuyuki', a well known Meiji ivory carver. The meaning of the subject, a man holding a statue with two figures and a bird, is unclear to me.

Guy.

Many thx Guy!
I've found similar figures on some auctions, named TOTEM, but I don't belive, this is a proper term for this kind of statue.
Greets from Poland, Czarek
