Subject:subtle low relief embossed images on bases sides and interiors of ceramic pieces

I have noticed these very subtle but complex images sometimes covering entire pieces. They are complex interwoven sort of Celtic style designs which look like they required much more work than the execution of the rest of the piece. Yet they are very subtle and often can only be revealed by doing light graphite or wax crayon rubbing. I can find no information about this dragon writing as I call it as it is almost exclusively images of intertwined dragons. These images are often found on pieces bearing no signature or if there is some obvious mark when you do a rubbing the mark is part pig the invisible design. I have also found such marks on stone and wooden objects. Any insights would be appreciated.
