Posted By: nev Mon, Apr 27, 2015 It is possibly as much as a years work judging by the detail. Size isn't clear but my grandmother's both embroidered so I have a fair idea of how much work was involved even if it is only 12x12 in it would take a month and it seems a lot larger than that. Nice to see the arts of women being appreciated. They often go unrecognized |

Posted By: nev Fri, May 01, 2015 in all likely hood the silk was grown and dyed in the town or village if not by the embroidered themselves...the artist may have been a man but in many asian cultures the men are deemed " to clumsy" to do detailed work. If you have ever seen the incredible carvings produced in Thailand for instance all are the work of women. |

Posted By: Chris Mon, Apr 27, 2015 Crane is a popular subject in arts and crafts in China and Japan, but the use of dominantly black and gold colors in the design is more Japanese than Chinese. Google "embroidery Japan crane" you can see somewhat similar pieces. Cheers. |
