Subject:Re: 18 Arhats plaques and Chinese inscriptions
Posted By: rat Tue, Aug 11, 2015 This seems to be a modern creation attempting to be the work of Wang Qi 王琦, a leading painter of such plaques (one of the "Eight Friends of Zhushan"). |

Posted By: rat Fri, Aug 28, 2015 Wang Qi lived between 1884 and 1937, meaning that the cyclical year in the inscriptions on your plaques must be 1932. Dating works to within a few years of an artist's death is common on fakes, and meant to suggest that the item in question is an example of the artist's most mature and valuable style. Unfortunately your plaques appear to be much more recently made. |
