Subject:Where Can A Canadian Sell Chinese Antiques?
Posted By: Baru L. Chai Fri, Oct 02, 2015 IP: 24.67.136.123

Greetings,

I am a longtime collector of Asian antiques including bronze, porcelain and jade, contemporary art including some original Han Mei Lin, and some furniture which I would not part with. I have few pieces I believe to be of value to the market in China. I currently reside in Canada, but would rather prefer to reach the rising demand in Hong Kong. Particularly Christie's Auction House.

Some unique information about myself that may influence the outcome of your answers: I have dual citizenship with the UK, and I have close family living in Hong Kong for many decades. The Autumn Asian Auctions in Europe may be an option, or using my family as a middle-man at the Hong Kong auctions? (I would trust them with this).

I have respect for collectors in China who are buying back their history that was lost to the Cultural Revolution, and believe some items should return to their homeland, whether culturally important or not, some may only be appreciated by a collector for the piece's craftsmanship and beauty.

I would like advice regarding options for selling internationally. I know there are many Chinese buying property here in Canada and the United States to park their money, as property is a questionable investment in China itself. However, many of these Chinese do not furnish their homes in the West with priceless antiques because it is simply an investment of property ownership and not a residence.

Kind Regards,
B.L. Chai
