Subject:Chinese Painting Artist & Translation Help Please
Posted By: Joe Tue, Jul 12, 2016 IP: 69.126.250.62

I recently purchased the pictures Chinese scroll painting. I was listed as an Original Huangshan school of painting. If I am correct many famous artists have painted Mt Huangshan and is the birthplace of Huangshan school of painting.

The painting is approx. 21" x 7 3/4". It also came with a letter from the gallery.

Can anyone help me with identifying the artist and of translate the inscription on the paintings and or gallery letter. Also any additional information will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Joe

Finger painting of the HuangShan area done in 1996 (more likely than 1936).

The seal definitely has the character Yin (left hand side) but the character on the right does not conform to any character Han that I can find. The only Chinese family names I can find with the 'carriage' radical do not look like the character in the seal. Perhaps Han Yin is the artist's given names, or pen-name.

Often these notes attached to the back of paintings record more hearsay then accurate information.

mikeoz,

Thank you for your time and expertise, it is greatly appreciated.

I also tried searching for the artist Han Yin and had no luck finding one that painted in the same style as the painting I purchased.

Thank you again

The Chinese name of the artist is
韓隱 (韩隐) Han Yin (Born in 1949)(Han 韩 is his family name)

his nickname is 黄山居士 which means the lay Buddhist who resides in Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain)

You can see both names appeared in the last row at the most left of your painting:
(from top to bottom)

Super,

Thank you very much for your time, expertise and knowledge. It is greatly appreciated. The information you provided is above and beyond what I expected.

Both articles provide so much information about the artist and his works. I love the piece I was able to obtain, and in the process of having it framed to be displayed with other Chinese artist works I have acquired.

Any additional information you may provide will be an additional bonus and greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Joe
