Subject:Re: Chinese or Japanese Bronze Vase

The bottom appears to have been soldered back into the base after breaking out, and might even be a replacement. This and the coppery looking artificial patina are shared in common with some circa 1900 Japanese bronze vases I've seen, which apparently were made with easily removable bottoms to ease their conversion to bases for the recently invented and very popular electric lamps that were coming into vogue at the time. Looks like it may be a late Meiji-Taisho period antique to me, but likely devalued by the repair.
Best regards,
Bill H.
