Message Betsey, Pyromaniac is absolutely on target about the stylistic problems with the painting. In addition, the rocks and foliage are full of aimless blobs and squiggles, as if the painter had not the least idea of how landscape elements were painted historically. It does not take a sophisticated understanding of painterly styles among the "literati" between 12th and 19th centuries to recognize this right away. All you have to do is take a look at two or more landscapes by good artists to see the mistakes. There are modern fakes painted by much better artists, so painterly quality is not an infallible guide. But it is always an element to look at. Best regards, Judy Post a Response |
