Shigaraki pot |
Posted By: G. Favre Posted Date: Feb 20, 2007 (01:22 AM) |
Message (Second try at posting this item...first one emailed Feb 12). Attached pix are of a largish (9x11 inch) pot which had been drilled, unfortunately, as a lamp. The bisquit is light grey, covered with a dark brown shiny glaze the color of molasses, which stops short of the foot in one area. An overglaze of semi-opaque yellowish-brown glaze appears on one side, very drippy and bubbly. I think this may have been caused by wood ash in the kiln. I believe the pot to be from the Shigaraki kiln, but have seen photos of similar wares by Karatsu and Bizen. Can anyone positively, without hands-on inspection, confirm the pot's origin? Am in process of weaning out a years'-long collection of oriental ceramics and am dithering on this one. Post a Response |
