Message To me the sig appears to be an insert into the netsuke. I'm a bit concerned over the lack of a fine, high finish on the material (dull patina, knife marks, excess grain, chips around the holes, etc.), which appears to be wood, but not one I recognize as being commonly used as netsuke.
