Carved in China |
Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Posted Date: Jan 23, 2008 (10:31 PM) |
Message It was customary for a person who went on a trip, to pick up some small gift for his family/friends. This would be often an inexpensive soapstone carving. Not much was thought about those, until the Chinese realized that Westerners like those carvings, and the market is ready for those tourists/ collectors. Soapstone, just like Serpentine, is often sold as Jade. My guess is, because of the colour, this item could be about 40 years old. The problem is, because it is a very soft stone, it can be easily damaged. Ernest Post a Response |
