What kind of wood is this?

I have a large and old Chinese two part cabinet that has very beautiful wood, but it appears that in some areas the wood has been refinished.

Does anyone know what type of wood it is?

I've photographed the top of the base cabinet with and without flash, and one of the lower cabinet doors, so you can see the natural/original color AND how irridescent the wood appears to be. Notice that the carved door is much more red than the rest of the piece. Do you think that is original?

If it is refinished, should I have the 're-finish' removed back to the original wood?

Also, the piece is constructed with NO NAILS and there are areas where the joints in the wood have begun to seperate - is there an easy way to reglue/rejoin these separations?

I will be adding more photos to the link tomorrow when I can photograph the entire piece in better light.

Thanks.
