Re: Questions about Satsuma Vase |

Message I can't help with values but the writing on the bottom says 'Seizan'. I believe there was at least one Kyoto artist using this mark on Satsuma and other painted stoneware during the late Meiji era (1868-1912). This vase looks to be a later product, perhaps a decade before World War II or a decade after the occupation of Japan ended in 1954. It lacks Satsuma markings, so this vase would usually be referred to as Kyoto ware made of Satsuma type stoneware. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
