Re: Terracotta figure |

Message Your terra cotta figure was made at the Guangzhou-area Shiwan kiln complex in China's Guangdong Province circa the late Qing through early Republic era. A factory run by descendants of Wen Rubi, a prominent potter of the Qing dynasty's Kangxi reign (1660-1722), operated at Shiwan from circa the last quarter of the 19th through first quarter of the 20th century. This factory went out of business around the 1920's, after which time several other kilns started using the Wen Rubi name commercially. I don't have enough specific information to know who used which mark and when, although your figure looks old enough to be of the late Qing period. In any event, perhaps this input will facilitate your further research of the piece. Best regards, Bill H. Post a Response |
