Hi Irene,

I'll give it my best shot, while reminding all that Japanese isn't my strong suit. Of course I'm not exactly sure what that would be anyway.

The stack of kanji on the right of the mark reads down as 'Hizen Arita' (a former prefecture and well known kiln locale), while my favorite online dictionary indicates the stack on the left may read: Hagemi Kousha Sei (Made by the Hagemi Industrial Company). Hopefully someone who really has a handle on nuances can fill in the fine details for both of us. Meanwhile my Google search found reference to the same mark in a cached Japanese language auction listing for porcelain dated July 2009.

Cheers,

Bill H.
