Landscape scroll bought in China about 25 years ago |

Message this is a contemporary concoction attempting to look like an old classical landscape. the title is travelers in a mountain pass (the big characters) and the inscription on the work itself is signed "zhao mengfu", a major Yuan period painter, calligrapher, and official. if you google his work you'll immediately see that this is entirely unrelated to his own landscapes or writing. the inscriptions mounted on the sides of the painting are purportedly enthusiastic assessments of the work by later connoisseurs, again in this case all manufactured. the seals bad imitations of imperial seals, the painting quality low.
