I bought this heavy wood 19" carving of fisherman, buyer, and child in 1949 Shanghai with US currency when the Nationalists were high-tailing it to Taiwan and the Gold Yuan was worth nothing.
Top knot of buyer figure damaged and original fishing pole missing when purchased, but statue is in otherwise good shape with few cracks due to aging. Could be sandalwood or burl and is amazingly heavy for size. Have not seen anythink like it for cost comparisons.
Next saw the General and Madam Kai-chek (sp?) at May Day reception in 70's at the Taipei Palace as member of the USAF Military Advisory Group. The General appeared much smaller in real-life when compared to the heroic-type photos that abounded during that period. Like to know value of my treasure. For insurance/sale.
